Legend of Korra, Season 2, Episode 10-

This moment was awesome!  And that moment was awesome!  Now if only the stuff between and leading up to it made ANY SENSE AT ALL.

I want their writing staff fired.  There are these occasional, profoundly beautiful moments, that are just *wasted*.  And I'm sick to death of Korra being helpless despite being the most badass chick since Toph, Mai, Katara, and Ty Lee.  I'm *sick* of it.  That one sequence would have been so cute and had so much meaning, but nothing she does is ever competent and she never gets out of problems on her own recognizance and soseeing her as a little baby girl lashing out and flailing until she's set straight by Irohis just icing on the damn cake.  There's flawed and then there's rolling the idiot ball, Sisyiphean style, before you.  I don't mind watching her fight and fail and learn again- but I really want that last part in there.  She doesn't learn, change or grow.  None of her choices matter.

And this nonsense with Vaatu and Unulaq has got to stop.  Where is his motivation, what is he going for, and Wan Shi Tong really is the epitome of the intellectual idiot.  What the fuck.  I am so done.  And why would you waste Professor Zei?  Spirits should be a bit alien and frightening, but this just makes them seem so- small.

I mean *really*.

There are definitely going to be overhaul AUs.  I can't let this stand.

I haven't caught on after the episode where she was dragged into the ocean, but what I have heard of em is...eh.

I mean, I like Mako, honestly, I ship Makorra, but somehow all the writing in these episodes is...bleh.

And spirits were way cooler in my head.

I like the idea of Mako, I just wish he were carried out better. I wish they'd explored some of the stuff they actually brought up in his and Bolin's background. I could totally see him as a guy who's had to get briar-tough to survive, all to protect the loved one he's got left- but it comes off as complete douchebaggery and what's worse is he's never called on it. In the old series people got *called* on their bullshit, and had to deal with it. This one? Not so much.

And making the major spirits so petty, it's just... urgh. Grr! Argh!

I tend to look beyond the character, how they should've been, would've been if the writing was better and that Mako interests me greatly. I mean, he screwed up in the first season with Asami, but if he had been called on it, the situation would have been far less worse for me than it ended at being.

I mean, in my canon he didn't have time or interest or - well - energy for girls before he started to do pro-bending matches, and after that he really didn't know what to do when two girls showed him explicitly that they were interested in him.

*nod* That's part of my issue with it too. I can totally believe he fumbled the relationships- and I wish they'd left it at that, because there's so much more interesting stuff going on.

Yes! As much as I like them, seriously, I would want to know about other stuff more...

My overall reaction to LoK is one of frustration, as you can see.

I really like it when spirits are...well, indiscernable, whose motives are clouded, who aren't, well, people. Who are...different.

I love Vathara's Embers and their version of spirits (he or she, can't remember ^^') have you read it?

I got a good chunk through, it was pretty cool- I just reached a point where I disagreed with characterization too much to continue. But (her?) worldbuilding was incredible, and I really liked the whole other level of freaky that spirits and elemental connections got there. That scene where that horrible skull-faced ghost woman showed up in the palace, heralding the end of a reign because there was no Earth King within its walls... it was creepy all on its own, and it lent this big, epic feel to things, like there's *reasons* for the weight of tradition to be so strong, because such things are almost the pillars of how human society continues to exist in a world where spirits may not be super-obtrusive, but are like leviathans beneath the surface of reality.

I think the characyerisations are realistic in a way that she (i will be using she for now on) takes a character and their canon experiences and tweaks them to a direction that is still realistic, but the show didn't go for. And if you look at Katara, she has grown such a great amount during her fic, realized where her training and thinking may not be quite so, um, right in that situation.

And I loved that how she puts more wight on those, fire is loyalty, air is freedom (but also truth), water is family and earth is traditional. It's very awesome.
