This can also be the place for new prompts.  So!  The Premise: Given as a meme prompt by Floranna, it is as follows- Princess (yes, princess) Zuko was pregnant at the time of her banishment, and children out of wedlock being rather a big deal in the Fire Nation, it may have had a lot to do with it. Now she seeks the Avatar as the path to redemption for herself, and her daughter.

The Summary: Having made it past a crisis point in her exile, Zura faces the next one- childbirth. Trouble and visions abound as she seeks aid, stuck in a small swamp-town for the duration.

For Floranna- Figured I ought to start posting these a bit separately from the main meme. I'm worried I made Jet a bit too sane in this one, or perhaps just with a slight double-standard. Unbeta'ed.

The AU: Princess Zura was pregnant when she was banished, and children out of wedlock is a big deal in the Fire Nation- now she seeks the Avatar across the world with a daughter in tow, with all the trials and tribulations that implies, and all the more reason to seek Aang as a prize.

The Prompt: How Jet treats Zura and Lan Min on the ferry or in Ba Sing Se

The Fic:

( He catches sight of her at the railing, and she confuses the hell out of him. )

So I've got Ozai/Maleficent in my head and they need a fairytale.

Ozai goes on whatever sort of trip young princes go on, and gets taken off to Maleficent's castle, where she teaches him the secrets of dragon-skin and makes him one, trying to strip off his humanity and give him a coat of scales and a heart of iron. He leaves or escapes, goes home and weds his betrothed, Ursa.

Maleficent shows up for the naming/whatever ceremonies for their children, with mixed blessings in hand. For Zuko- "He will be strong, and valiant, and he'll need it." Azula- "She will be everything that you want of her."

Meanwhile, Ozai's got a dragon-skin locked away, sort of a Hans-my-Hedgehog/werewolf thing/selkie thing, where it's slowly drawing him away every time he puts it on, whether for need or for joy. Ursa doesn't like this, and there's going to be something along the lines of a May-Margaret in the Ballad of Tam Lin, wherein she has to hold fast to him and/or give him a new shape/cover him with her mantle rather than the dragonskin. Her early attempts to cleanse him of its influence, perhaps by burning it, may be the catalyst for driving Ozai to Maleficent again briefly. Oh, and she gets to kill Maleficent in a swords-n-fire catfight, too.

What happens when a dragon takes off its skin?, he wonders. Not the gross anatomical question, but one with very real bearing, considering it's what he seems to have slept under.

When she is at her zenith, she blacks out the sky, wings flared hot and dark and purple. When she walks about, it is as a nearly- not- human woman, sleek horns drawn back from an elegant face, all else hidden beneath flowing billows of robes, her furled wings framing delicate wrists.

It is that which lays about him now, rustling like silk and like scales and heavy and thick like the warmest damask. Her castle is chill and damp, and he knows were he to step out from the bed and touch feet to floor, it would chill his blood. Under her abandoned robes, however, it is supremely warm.

Unnaturally warm.

He takes a breathless moment, nothing like panic- and then relaxes, feeling no pulse within the thickness of its black tatters.

Still, it is with a little reluctance that he bundles deeper into its sleek warmth and goes to seek his hostess, and the fate of his clothes.

Been wondering about yet-another! AU for the Avatarverse- wondering about what it was like when the dragons were around. I want to see what it would have been like had Ozai or Zuko bonded with a hatching dragon- not a complete Pern ripoff, although Avocado-love did a really good Pern!Avatar AU, but- I dunno, I get interesting or luxuriant images in my head and want to try out whatever universe supports them. And I want to see arrogant, cold Ozai brought to his knees by a demanding hatchling that will be his companion, however cold and reptilian they grow up to be, or adorable younger Zuko, awkward and nervous, bonding with his new friend.
