Music, Fic and Me, Rambling.
Jun. 28th, 2009 10:10 pmI've been reading some of these Avatar fic-memes that I've been finding lately, and loving the little character-interpretations you find there- things you'd never expect, and yet that totally become your new canon. This is part of why I never manage to write fic- other people do it first and better, and suddenly I could never see it any other way^^ And I don't like to copy as I reflect.
But it does bring things to mind when I'm listening to music. Billy Joel is my major background noise these days (not only do I love him and am in the middle of savoring and absorbing a collection I hadn't heard before, but I've only rescued a very little of my music since the Great PC-Nuking and Subsequent Light Clonk and Total Destruction of the Terabyte External Drive Containing All My Worldly Data of '09, and he's mostly it.).
Anyway- couple of songs that are relatively new for me, but really hitting home with a couple of characters I've been reading lately. All About Soul is totally for Song, the young woman in the hanbok who started to break through to Zuko before he stole her ostrich-horse, in all her gentle quiet tough-as-bloody-nails-for-your-own-good glory.
The other- Light As The Breeze- is so making me think of Ozai and Ursa. And not so much an alternate character interpretation as just *them*- and wanting to see (as is my usual wont) what Ozai could have been like were he not such a complete evil doesn't-know-what-to-do-with-children-or-real-love dick with inherited and passed-on daddy issues. Because I like to be able to sympathize with both the romantic protagonists of a hot, powerful and compelling pairing. And damn, do I want to find/read/write(hah) some quality Ursa/Ozai fic with Ozai as penitant and Ursa getting the groveling she deserves.
