Small, random giggle- I'm watching The Dark Knight again, having developed a definite taste for the Joker, and grinning over how totally Chicago Gotham is.  I mean, the big parade/sniper scene?  I don't think it's right in front of the Art Institute at Adams and Wabash, but I swear I've either been there or seen buildings with very similar veneer and style.  The office of the officials above Dent and Gordan (can't recall their names) are in front of those little castle-buildings from the water treatment people.  I've seen those two round parking towers that you can see through Bruce's penthous window.

And I just watched the bit after the hospital blows up, and I'm looking at the bus and it's *completely* familiar, right down to the 'CTA' striped onto the side-

Except it's "GTA", which just makes me giggle happily.  I love having my city be Gotham.  It's just a weird little kick, and New York certainly gets enough attention as 'The City', where all things happen, everything looks like it. Chicago's got a good- eh- gloomy feel.  We've got the festering hive aspect, sure, but not nearly so bad, and with plenty of room for atmosphere- mythology.  It's not tapped out and rented to every single storyline that could possibly be set in it- there's still mystery here, that's more unexplored jungle than plundered, abandoned and replundered mazes of corridors.

....I really shouldn't type these things at 3AM on caffiene and misplaced pride, should I.  Ah well.  Still squeeing over the lovely buildings and the river.  I just sometimes get a little ticked- and yet at the same time relieved- that Chicago-as-Chicago, not Chicago-as-New-York, isn't the background for more visual stories.
