Odd Thought

Odd thought to use in a fantasy story sometime- a young godling is thrown from the heavens, and left to live as a demi-mortal in a body that is less than fully-functional.  Thor becomes Hephaestus, and learns to live with it.

Taken in by the folk of a roughly Stone or Bronze-age village, he's nursed back to health and is loosely adopted by one of the local families.  Once he gets over the shellshock of, you know, hitting the earth from heaven's heights and the utter rejection of his elder gods, he starts inching out of his shell, making friends, and bargaining for his mobility.  He's young, strong, and in a world where folks can get turned into serpents and rocks, having broken legs is not completely soul-shattering.  Besides, there's Adventures to be had with his new mortal friends!

Being Hephaestus isn't that bad when you've got bros who look out for you.  And being able to trade the  secrets of metal (or the like) in exchange for some support gear, well, that just makes Adventuring easier.

This is interesting! More?

Haven't got a whole lot of specifics- mostly that it's probably a Conan-esque sort of world, where there's distant centers of civilization (for a given definition of civilized) but also a whole lot of quasi-barbarian villages and untamed wilderness- it's a young world, to the point where it's mythology is still being written in parts as gods quarrel and war over territory much as their followers below.

Hephaestus!kid here isn't really a technology-god proper, but is mostly just applying divine knowledge specifically so he can get around better. He's both of a personal inclination and semi-destined (in the way that deities sort of embody a Theme) to be a Thor-like beer-swilling berserking boisterous warrior when he's grown up, but circumstances have forced him to get creative about it.

Hmmm. Mayhap some warlord or other gets hold of a piece of the niiice metalwork Hephaestus!kid has produced for his adopted village, and decides to sweep in and make trouble, thus kicking off Adventures. Not that Hephaestus!kid minds his talents being appreciated and getting to finally travel, but he'd like to get paid, not enslaved or enshrined (roughly the same thing).

Ah, is this an AU to the Thor verse? It sounds interesting, though reading this has forced me to dust off my mythology knowledge :-P.

Not really, although I'm sure it would make a cool idea on a meme- I'm just using Thor and Hephaestus as broad archetypes to convey that there's this little warrior godling who mouths off to his elders in an ancient and brutal world, gets thrown down to earth, and has to deal with the fact that he's going to be disabled the rest of his existence- but he still manages to be a kickass demigod.
