Thinky Thoughts:Fae
Or- I'm off to GenCon and enjoy writing at three in the morning when I really should be sleeping.
Characters of note so far in the weird-based-on-a-dream-I-had-Fae-Xmen-Evolution thing thus far:
Mabon: So far, the main character, or at least the one my brain keeps swirling about. Mabon is an Unseelie changeling (changeling being the sort of 'larval' fae form- they're closer to mortal before growing up and refining their powers), resembling a tall, skinny lizardman with a perpetual bad attitude and huge yellow eyes, when he opens them all the way. His 'type' corresponds with a basilisk, and when he opens his eyes all the way he can keep someone paralyzed for as long as he's looking them in the eye. He's also one of those odd ducks who doesn't correspond to human sexes, but prefers and presents as male- and given that some of the weirder Unseelie breed by tearing your shadow into bits, forcing them to fight one another and then eating the last one on top, he's almost vanilla).
The leader and general plan-guy for his team. His lord gives an order, Mabon figures out how to execute it and directs his fellows in their mission. He's generally dour, sarcastic and focused on getting the goal completed without losing anyone.
Jenny Greenteeth: Water-based bruiser. Mabon's best friend and oldest fellow member of their crew. A bit susceptible to the charm of one of the Seelie team's members, despite knowing damn well (and being gently reminded) that that sort of thing tends to end badly for their kind.
McGowan: Mabon's liege-lord, an Unseelie lord who's built himself a bit of a criminal empire. McGowan is a dullahan, an Irish headless horseman (although he hardly ever bows and sweeps off his head like a hat in public). He's older than he looks, someone who's managed to enhance his own Fae nature very strongly and survive for a long time. He's one of the last of the generation that lived Underhill, before the leylines dried up, and he's done very well for himself on the fringes, where the Seelie dare not go.
He provides for those who come to him, snapping up changeling youth desperate enough to give their Oaths and become his little soldiers. He is also a Legitimate Businessman, thank you very much.
Moira: Short, dumpy old woman in a reddish-brown cap who tends to the safehouse where McGowan's young crew make their base. A redcap, she is cousin to the brownies, but will be a bit more extreme in defending her homely territory should someone decide to come in after her charges.
???: Haven't named her yet, but McGowan's young ward is a young Unseelie gorgon. She's tiny and adorable and kind of sad that she can't look her friends in the eyes, lest they freeze up and get really mad at her afterward. Sidhe have a hard time breeding the farther past the changeling stage they get, so children are rare and precious to the powerful, as well as valuable.
