Nine months ago, they were snowed in together. Now here they are again, though at least this time they have food and firewood and it’s home, not a hunting lodge.
Hakoda wakes up to find the former Firelord crouched like a caged panther, slung low and angry and hurting. His rounded sides shiver, and Hakoda knows if he touches the other man he will strike.
So he gets up, and puts on water, and acts as if it’s another ordinary day beneath the snow. There’s food to thaw in the storeroom, and always things to do, mending, sharpening, tending the implements that make life on the ice possible.
He’s relieved and terrified when Ozai reaches out and grabs his arm in passing.
“It’s not like with Zuko, something’s wrong-“ he hisses.
